An artificial crackelure may be in some instances a desired effect. It is possible to create a stable thin layer of paint with cracks using Light and Very Light B72 Retouching Gels. This can be achieved by the application onto a nonabsorbent surface of a layer. thicker than usual, of paint containing a large proportion of gel in ratio to pigment. This method is difficult to control and requires practice and testing prior to use.
