Flower painting with impastos before retouching/inpainting

This is an example of retouching a painting, with extensive paint losses, painted with impastos.

Fast - Hard 25 Si Fast - Heavy 20 Slow - Heavy 20

The chosen media for retouching were Fast - Hard 25 Si, Fast - Heavy 20, Slow - Heavy 20 B72 Retouching Gels and 15% solution of Paraloid B72 in 1-methoxy-2-propanol. The pigments were grinded on the palette with gels and a solution of resin mixed in different proportions depending on the desired effects.

The Fast gels were used for fast drying impastos that allow them to be painted over without mixing the colours. Slow - Heavy 20 gel was used on its own or added to Fast - Hard 25 Si gel where wet-in-wet painting effects were required for a fluid transition of colour and paint mixing together on the surface of the filling. The solution of Paraloid B72 was used for painting flat areas and added to the gels in order to impart fluidity to the paint.
